What is the ‘Check-In’?

The Check In activity is a mandatory component of your learning on your Change Makers module.

The Check In requires you to post the answer to a question that assesses your engagement with the module and your learning. The question will automatically appear in the virtual classroom each week, and you will be notified when the question is published.

You must complete the Check In within 24 hours of the start of your scheduled class each week.

Why do we have to do the Check In?

As we might not all be able to meet together during our scheduled class time, we need a mechanism to ensure that all students have engaged with the class each week. This is partly for attendance monitoring (because all i-Explore and Horizons modules have an attendance requirement) and partly so that we can see that you are safe and well and are engaged with the module.

What are the questions like?

The questions will be quite simple, but will require you to think about the class and engage with the activities for the week, have a think about the question and then post your answer in the Check In.

There is a Check In in each module classroom. You will be able to see all the responses of your classmates, and we encourage you to comment on each others’ responses with respect and interest.

Is it marked?

Although mandatory, your response will not be marked. There are no right or wrong answers. We will not be judging the quality or content of your response, although we will be reading it and thinking about what it means in terms of your progress in the module.

How will the Check In help me?

The Check In question will be related to, but not a contributory part of, your main class activity and learning for the week.

For example, the question might ask you to share some ideas about a topic being covered in class, or to reflect on what skills you used in the previous activity.

Thinking about and answering these questions will contribute to and enrich your learning. It will also provide your teachers with extra insights regarding your progress, so that they can tailor the following classes to your needs.

What if I don’t complete the Check In?

If you don’t complete your check in, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that you are safe and well, and reminding you to complete the check in.

If you do not complete the Check In questions during the module, you will not be able to pass the module.
