What is the Change Makers Common Room?

As well as having access to the virtual classroom for your module and to a team space to collaborate with your classmates, you will have access to the Change Makers Common Room.

The Common Room is a space where you can mingle with students from other Change Makers modules. Over the past few years, we have been trialling different types of activity to encourage students from different modules to share their experiences. It has been a hugely positive experience for everyone and has received excellent feedback from students.

We are therefore keen to carry this work on in the Change Makers Common Room within Basecamp.

There are several tools within the Common Room – the Interchange, the Notice Board, the Campfire, and the Mix and Match zone.

The Interchange

The Interchange is a space to capture reflective exchanges between you and other students. Every two weeks you will receive a prompt question – something to ask other students about. Every student can then add their response to that question in the Interchange. You will be able to see all the other responses from other students.

There are two ways that you can meet students from other modules – one is at the Campfire, and the other is via a private Ping. Pings are one-to-one messages that are private between you and another Change Maker student or staff member. You can Ping anyone that you like, at any time.

The Notice Board

The Notice Board is exactly what it sounds like – a place to share notices, opportunities, ideas, resources – anything you like. It doesn’t have to be directly related to your module.

For example, we might share things like – good TV programmes, interesting websites or articles, opportunities for internships, volunteering or competitions.

The Campfire

The Campfire is a chat that is visible and accessible to all students and staff within Change Makers. You can start a conversation here about the prompt question of the week, or about anything else that you like.

Remember to be respectful and kind in the chat.

The Campfire is a great place to meet people, who you then might want to follow up with in a private Ping.

If you meet a group of people and want to have a more private group chat, let us know, and we can set you up your own Campfire space.

The Mix and Match Zone

Here you will details of on campus or online additional hours for contact with your teacher. It is possible to schedule a meeting with your teacher at any time, but we have additional drop-in hours available for which you don’t need to book. You can just come along.

In these Mix and Match hours, you can ask questions about anything to do with your module, you can talk to your teacher about your studies or life – or anything you like! Sometimes students just come along to hang out for a bit – perhaps have a cup or tea or coffee, or even have breakfast or lunch. You can use these hours however you like – the teacher will be there for you.
